ReAct Theatre Co. / Members’ space

Community guidelines & acceptable use

These guidelines cover the class chats, the network chat, the member directory and anything else you post or upload in the members’ space. They are part of our Terms & conditions, and sit alongside our Safeguarding policy and Privacy policy. By posting here you agree to them.

The spirit of this place

This is a private professional community for ReAct actors, students, alumni, teachers and staff — not a public social network. The work we do together asks people to be brave, to fail in front of each other, and to be seen before they are ready. That is only possible in a room where everyone feels safe.

The simplest test: would you say this, in this tone, in the rehearsal room, out loud, to the person’s face? If not, don’t post it here.

What we expect of everyone

  • Be generous. Answer questions, share what you know, celebrate other people’s news.
  • Be professional. Assume your words will be read by a teacher, a future employer and the person you are talking about. Use your real name and keep your profile accurate.
  • Be inclusive. This community is open to everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, background or level of experience.
  • Keep chats on topic. Class chats are for that class — scenes, scheduling, material, encouragement. The network chat is for the wider community.
  • Mind the room. Avoid posting late at night if you can, and don’t expect instant replies. Nobody is on duty in a chat.

What is never acceptable

We have zero tolerance for the following, in chats, profiles, uploads or private contact arising from this community:

  • Harassment, bullying, intimidation, stalking or repeated unwanted contact.
  • Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, religious hatred or any other discriminatory or hateful language — including as a “joke”.
  • Sexual harassment, sexually explicit material, or sexual comments about another member.
  • Threats, incitement to violence, or encouraging self-harm.
  • Abusive, humiliating or degrading remarks about a member, a tutor, a guest practitioner, a casting professional or an agency.
  • Sharing another member’s personal information, messages, images or contact details outside this community.
  • Impersonating another person, or misrepresenting your credits, training or representation.
  • Spam, scams, chain messages, mass unsolicited messaging, or anything unlawful.
  • Posting anything that would identify a child, or discussing a safeguarding concern in a group chat.

Taking a dispute outside the app does not put it outside these guidelines: conduct towards another member that arises from this community may still lead to your access being removed.

Privacy and confidentiality

What happens in the community stays in the community.

  • Do not screenshot, copy, forward or publish chat messages, member profiles, headshots, Spotlight links or contact details.
  • Do not add another member to a mailing list, group or platform without asking them first.
  • Treat what people share about auditions, self-tapes, rejections, health or personal circumstances as confidential.
  • Remember that everyone in a class chat can read what you post there, and staff can see all chats. Please don’t post medical details, safeguarding matters or anything sensitive — email hello@reacttheatreco.com instead.
  • You control what appears on your own directory profile in Profile, including whether you appear at all.

Giving notes and feedback

Feedback is part of the training, and giving it well is a skill. When you respond to someone’s work:

  • Give notes on the work, never on the person.
  • Be specific and useful — “the second beat landed for me, the shift in the third felt rushed” beats “that was great” or “that didn’t work”.
  • Only give notes when they have been asked for, unless a tutor has set the exercise up that way.
  • Never comment on a member’s body, appearance or casting type unless it is directly relevant to the work and invited.

Sharing scripts and work

Scripts, sides, monologues, recordings and other resources shared here are for private study and rehearsal only. Do not forward them outside the members’ space, publish them, or perform them publicly — copyright usually sits with the writer or publisher and public performance needs a separate licence. Only upload material you have the right to share. See our Terms & conditions for the full position.

Promotion, casting calls and opportunities

Sharing a genuine opportunity with the community is welcome. Please:

  • Post it once, in the network chat, not across every class chat.
  • Say clearly whether it is paid, profit-share or unpaid, and who is producing it.
  • Don’t use the community as a mailing list for your own business, product or ticket sales without asking us first.
  • Never ask another member for payment in exchange for representation, casting or an introduction.

ReAct does not vet opportunities posted by members. Do your own checks, never pay to audition, and tell us if something looks wrong.

Under-18s and safeguarding

Member accounts are held by adults. Where a participant is under 18, a parent or guardian holds the account and communication goes through official ReAct channels — tutors do not message students privately. If something you see here worries you about the welfare of a child or an adult at risk, do not handle it in the chat: contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead straight away as set out in our Safeguarding policy.

Moderation and consequences

ReAct staff and administrators can read every chat and may remove any message. Depending on what has happened, we may:

  • delete a message or an upload;
  • have a quiet word and ask you to change how you’re posting;
  • remove your access to a chat or to the member directory;
  • suspend or close your account and cancel your bookings, without refund where the breach is serious;
  • report the matter to the police, a local authority or another agency where we are required or it is necessary to keep someone safe.

We will normally tell you what has happened and give you a chance to respond, unless doing so would put someone at risk. Deleting a message does not delete it from our records where we need to keep it for a safeguarding or legal reason.

Reporting a problem

If someone’s behaviour here has made you uncomfortable, tell us. You can email hello@reacttheatreco.com, speak to any tutor, or contact a co-owner directly. You do not have to be certain, and you will not be in trouble for raising something in good faith. We will take it seriously, keep it as confidential as we safely can, and tell you what we’ve done.

For a concern about a child or an adult at risk, contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Jack Dickson, on 07984 336443, or our Deputy, Luke Lambert, on 07495 056984. In an emergency, call 999.
